Holiday Fun Week 2011 - Senses
Once again, from 24th to 29th July, Banstead Five Churches organised Holiday Fun Week for 186 children and lots of adults and teenage helpers.
The morning activities after a time of worship concentrated on these senses and lots of ingenious crafts and games were thought up to test each sense. Here are some examples:
- SlGHT - try doing anything with your eyes closed. Even simple tasks are difficult.
- TOUCH - hold a piece of ice in your fingers for a few minutes and then try to pick up a grain of rice.
- TASTE - lots of cooking! Close your eyes and guess what the food is. Some were easy but not all!
- HEARING - we all closed our eyes and listened. Amazing what sounds are around us all of the time if only we concentrate and listen.
- SMELL - the smell of scented candles and of bread baking.
The afternoon activities were as popular as ever. Football, cricket, rounders, team games, ball skills, dancing, art and craft and of course George's ever popular Bible Stories Drama. Many new friends were made and a new awareness of the Greatness of God.
Thank you to everyone who helped in any way; the week was a great success and I am still singing the theme song.
