Pilgrimages

The Banstead Five Churches are famous for their ecumenical pilgrimages. We believe that pilgrimage is a vital part of the Christian life of discipleship. The Banstead Five Churches are famous for their ecumenical pilgrimages. We believe that pilgrimage is a vital part of the Christian life of discipleship.

We have created tailor-made pilgrimages to famous holy places that have been the homes of Christian heroines and hero’s of the past and to gain spiritual strength from their stories. Also, we work hard to set up meetings with the Christians of today - for example we had fellowship with a tiny indigenous Church in Turkey while visiting the 7 Churches of Asia in 1997; we had open air communion with the Catholic priest of Glendalough in Ireland in 2000. We met David Adam of Holy Island and several Northumbrian Christian artists in 2002. We returned to Holy Island in 2003 and have been to Rome, Assisi and Venice in 2004.

In 2005 our pilgrimage "Saints and Saltwater" was to Cornwall. Click here for full report.

The 2006 pilgrimage was to to Peru - 16th to 29 August 2006 with the Revd David & Mrs. Andrea Chance.

In October 2007 the Revd David and Mrs Andrea Chance led 38 pilgrims from the Banstead Five Churches on a visit to Santiago de Compostela.

Our pilgrimages are open to all denominations and we have gained great strength from travelling with many individuals from outside Banstead.
